Up high and down low, this week we will take a look at a fifth floor bar on the river downtown and then go low to a laid back basement bar. The flashing lights of Level 5 and the dim lighting of The Cellar are two unique experiences.

This month we make our way back downtown to Level 5 at City Stage. Located at 21 North Front Street across the street from RIZE, this distinctive bar has been offering bar goers an experience unlike most others. The roof top bar has recently been renovated adding new awnings, slide panel doors, and heaters. Overlooking waterfront Wilmington while having drinks with friends can be a great experience but like the saying goes you get what you pay for. Unlike muggy sweat infested bars below it, you are going to have to pay premium prices for a premium time with your friends. By a premium time I mean having a good drink on the rooftop of a classy bar. In the words of UNCW student Ryan, “It’s expensive but it’s worth it, quality over quantity.” Level 5 offers views of the river and downtown Wilmington. Although Level 5 may be a little pricy this is a bar I would recommend visiting as often as possible. Even if it means saving up your pay check.

Take it down a couple floors to The Cellar and you will get a completely different experience and one a little easier on the wallet. The Cellar, located on the street right behind Pravda, is a more relaxed place with dim lighting, ample leather couches and stools to hang out on. It also offers an open patio, penny pool tables, electronic dart boards, and features a recently added Wii for entertainment, not seen in many bars. The place is huge which helps in keeping the crowd size down. It is also tucked in off the main roads so it doesn’t get too overwhelming in the first place. If you want to have a good time relaxing and having a few drinks at decent prices then this is the place for you. UNCW junior Sean, said “The Cellar is a sick place for us to go and just chill.” They also are very open to having private parties. They understand that if they help their customers out, their customers will help them out. Great people, great drinks, and a great place. The Cellar is definitely an experience all should indulge upon.
